What kind of Plant

Hi everyone im thinking of maybe putting a live plant or two in my ball pythons terrarirum to make it more natural and to help riase the humidity in the cage. But doesn anyone know a plant that i could use for my ball python cage? Also would i need a certain type of bedding to keep the plant(s) alive or is the aspen i already use good enough.?

Buddy, don't take this the wrong way but if you think aspen is a good planting medium.....I don't think you should be messing with plants at the moment. You are looking at a lot of extra work.....best to keep it as it is.

Using aspen shavings along with to high of heat could be the reason why you're not holding proper humidity. A live plant will not help. Will you please tell me what your exact setup is????

Without knowing your snakes exact setup I am unable to help you diagnose and solve any humidity problems your having. So ....................... let me know. Maybe post a picture or three???? :D

i guess i dont need the live plants but the humidity is getting better because on thursday i left for a camping trip and the humidity was the same as always 55% but when i came back yesterday the humidity raised all the way to 65%! So im hoping this will stay that way and fix the shedding problems

That and some daily misting with a spray bottle during his shed cycle will help.

What type of cage is your snake in? If it's a terrarium with a screen top all of your humidity is escaping out of there. Cover the lid with aluminum foil on one side or use a piece of plywood or something.

What also causes a huge drop in humidity is also opening and closeing the cage more then once per day. The reason the humidity picked up was because ( I'm assuming) it was not opened.

Brad is right in that misting the cage will help aid in shedding but to maintain proper humidity you'll have to mist the cage everyday with the aspen in there.

Here is the full low down.
Belly heat with the hot spot being 89-90o
If you don't have a temp gun get one
Large water bowl with a water change everyday
Cypress mulch for the subsrate. Cypress mulch hold humidity very well.

The rest I am sure you know. Cover all screen tops. You can even use a small bath towel.

srry i forgot about the setup part i was in a hurry and had to go somewhere but i have a 20 gallon cage with screen top and 3/4 of it covered by a bath towel. i got a large waterbowl in the middle,humididty box on the cool side, and a hide box on warm side
