Ok... so at around 4:40am or so I went downstairs to go give the rats a little more food. Well, the tub on the top shelf started sliding as I was putting some food through the lid and to make a long story short... as I tried to catch it the male rat got knocked and ended up flying out. Well, there was no way there was going to be a rat loose in my unfinished basement, it had easy access to inside the walls, not too mention it is so packed full fo stuff that you cant move around, or even access some parts (not to mention its a decent sized basement). And hey, it's not my house and the rats are barely welcome there to begin with! So the second the rat was out, I didnt even have a clue where it was... called my puppy (well, actually he is 10 years old...lol!) downstairs and told him "Get the Rat!" and within SECONDS you could hear the screaming. Poor little guy. I feel awful about it, but at least it was fast enough. Better than setting traps which they wouldve done  Now the thing is, Jack Russell Terriers aren't retreivers so good luck getting the thing back. It took me 30 min to get him to leave it, but its still in a place I can't reach. Just woke up now and I'm gonna go try to fish it out. Wish me luck! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Cute little dogs!...but man do they have alot of energy...I could never keep up with one....their in pup mode their whoooole life!:)
Sounds like you got yerself a good lil' tracker though....my lil guy, a black lab/hound should be a good tracker except he just corners things and if he gets a rebuttal he backs off!! More of a chicken than a dog! Come to think of it......even if I bring a snake out(we're talking baby snake)he quickly leaves the room. Thats my brave boy!!

Grant: Oh there was no way I could salvage the rat... JRT's are bred rat killers. They do tidy and quick job though. But my puppy decided he didn't want to leave it and would rather clean it... grrrrr! He was licking it forever, that's why he wouldnt come out! Got it out this morning and it was totally intact with a few teeth marks, but you could tell he gave it a thorough cleaning...lol!

Yve: Aw what a cute puppy! I guess I'm lucky. Mine is a very relaxed calm dog, always has been... even as a puppy he acted like a little old man. And doesnt make a sound. Good thing because I'm not into the little yappy dog thing. The other JRT we have has a bit of a mouth, drives me nuts. I'm more into larger dogs.

LOL... looks too sweet to kill anything...

Yeah right now we have a Racoon who has been in a short tree in our yard all day, he won't leave and I haven't been able to let my jacks out there in the back all day.

He is SOOOOOOO cute Linds! I love his coloring and that great hair!

I used to have a Siberian who was awesome at ratting. She wouldn't kill them, but she would sort of herd them until (a) they got out of the house or (b) someone scooped it up. She was good with snakes too, got a whole little group of garter snakes out from under the fridge at the cottage without hurting a single one.

I love pinschers, my fav are German Pinschers tho, they are a good size (about 35lbs) and were the base breed for both teh dobie (upsozed) and minpin (downsized). Im going to get one in a couple years, can't have one while ive got my collie, shes not a big fan of other dogs

Beagles are the best dog in the world, especially if you own a burm. No, no, no not to feed to the burm for those who were thinking that, beagles are the best rabbit dogs in the world. :)

Actually, most smooth-coated dogs shed ALOT more than anything with a longer coat (coarse-coated dogs - not like collies or newfies). My jack's dont seem to shed at all. Lol not sure any dog shed compares to cat hair though... yuck!

Well now that we have turned this site totally into a dog forum...i wanna join in....:D
My favorite dog would have to be a Female 1/2 Red nose Pit bull mixed with an Akita...ears cropped and all.
I think they're beautiful mixes....although i dont know if any of u have seen this mix...but most i've seen are amazing....
Also, pure american bulldoggs are wicked too....but not those obese slobbering ones.....ones thsat have been worked out and toned.
Also, French Mastiffs are awsome too.....now that i think about it anything thats furry and has 4 legs is wicked!:)

Linds-go figure.... we had a sheltie(mini-collie)and a mini-samoid which did shed and get stinky occasionally!:) and I couldn't agree with you more on the cat hair....We've got two russian blues and if I don't vacuum everyday there's hair bunnies rollin around like tumble weed! lol! Pretty kitties though.....:)
btw...our lil' samoid would catch mice in the house and do away with 'em too.....

Grant-I have no idea what an Akita is but I like the pit bull half of that deal!:) Bull dogs, mastiffs, bull terriers...they're nice and buff! All they need is a t-shirt with a pack of smokes rolled under the sleeve to finish of they're look!
:D
