I was wondering what the best way to keep my boa warm at night, it seems the temp gets down to about 72 in my house and in his aqaurium too. I have a heating pad so how wlse can I get his cage temp to about 78-80 degrees?????

How? as long as your temprature is where it's suppose to be then I don't see the problem. Please explain.

hi, I took my boa to the vet the other day because he was breathing funny, I thought he was breathing funny because it got colder in his aquarium at night, I mentioned to the vet about me getting an infrared lamp at night and she said that it could harm the snakes eyesight and stuff like that, I thought it sounded farfetched myself but then I got to thinkin that she is the vet not me? So have you had any probs with the night light???

I haven't had any problems!! I asked around and no one has had any poblems either. I was told that if the light was bad for the snake then petstores couldn't sell them cause they have to be approved and be safe for the animal.

You could get a ceramic heat emitter. All the heat of a heat lamp without the light. They last for a long time as well.

b.t.w. Pet stores can sell what ever they want...safe or not. Most likely it's OK though.

If your heating pad is not keeping the temp. high enough, you might consider a UTH from your pet store designed for the purpose. 72F won't hurt your boa overnight, as long as the temp. goes back up in the daytime for 12 - 14 hrs. If you just have a screen top on your boa's aquarium, you may want to cover it overnight to help keep the heat in.

I use Zoo Med red heat bulbs at night and I have had no problems. A CHE would be a good choice as well.

Yeah I cover the top of my boa's enclosure with a folded hand towel over the top of each end to help keep heat in. Works great! :P

at night my bci has a black light bulb i use. until i get a ceramic heat emitter as they are quite expensive opposed to a three dollar black light bulb

My opinion is that you're best off with a UTH. it heats the bottom of the cage, which is where your boa probably spends the most time

Yeah I run an undertank heater all the time and have a lamp on a timer for daytime.
