View Full Version : POLL: What kind of temperature control do you use?
Hi everyone. I just thought it'd be interesting to see what kinds of different heat controlling elements are being used. Also please feel free to post with your opinions on them.
I use the Helix DBS-1000, the ESU analog thermostat and the Alife analog thermostat.
All are good.

Have to agree with you Jeff. If it feels too warm / cool in the room....................................it probably is.
I have one analog thermostat, which really has no temp setting on it, just a dial with red and blue marking around it....lol....so basically that is a dimmer that wears out your heating device alot faster  I pretty well stick to dimmers, my snakes aren't gonna die with slight fluctuations in temperature so I don't really feel that a thermostat is worth the money. I keep tabs on the temperature in my cages and if it needs adjusting I do it myself, another thing I still have to do with that ZooMed Thermostat...LOL :p Lutron makes a wonderful sliding lamp dimmer that requires absolutely no wiring. Just plugs right in :D

Ha ha, that's what I meant! I use my fingers to turn the devices on/off or up/down!! Ha ha, not to feel whether its warms or cold (although I do that sometimes too!). LOL.
:D
I have a zoomed and Im not sure why you would need to ever adjust it. it is a thermostat like any other thermostat. that uncalibrated knob does not change the amount of power flowing into the devices therefore tweaking it does not adjust the heat output. the knob positions correspond to a temperature reading input by the temperature probe. if it is 30F degrees in the room and the knob is set to a position equal to 90F degrees the device will stay on until the probe reaches a temp of 90F degrees. if it is 100F degrees in the room the device will not turn on. ive been using it for some time with a digital thermometer probe taped to the zoomed probe. I have the knob adjusted to 90F degrees and I have the two probes directly over the uth. Regardless of what the temperature in my room has been the zoomed keeps the uth running at 90F (give or take a few degrees). I just dont understand why once you have the knob sset to the desired temperature...why would you ever need to adjust it again?

I live in CT where the temp fluctuates a great deal on a daily basis so I use the On/Offs to regulate it. I can't get an accurate temp with dimmers well enough.
