I've been looking at the pictures and of the Rosies lately, and I thought to really look into them... (I always like to do my homework first) I was directed here...

I'm really starting to adore these little guys - so any info, pictures, stories, advice, and arugments for my father you can dish up would be amazingly helpful. ^^

Thanks... :hammer:

To get the reptile you want, it's always best to lie! Um I am kinda kidding but here's how I got my rosy. My parents had warmed up to my geckos no problem. So I told my mom a rosy is like a gecko with no legs. Since I was away at college I just bought the rosy without telling her. I told her after I bought it so that she couldn't say no. And I also had several months for her to get used to the idea. Finally she didn't care when I told her it wasn't biting anymore (most rosies do not bite at all). Now my dad on the other hand is afraid of snakes. Here's when a beautiful lie worked to my advantage and it was my mom's idea. She told him that the snake was a rescue and I couldn't say no. So then he had a couple months to warm up to it. The condition is if it gets out that he is taking the lawnmower to him :( :( :( So I have 4 2lb weights keeping the lid on the cage and there is no problem. Good luck!

heheh! That's what I did with Travis... I just got him without saying anything - until my Dad noticed that my aqaurium actully had something in it... But then he didn't seem to mind... I just don't know if I can come up with the money myself ^^;;

Ahh, I see. My rosy was $70 US at a pet shop which is really low for an adult. But that is because I think they couldn't sell his b/c he was a biter. I think you could get a good deal on one if you went to a show though.

I'm a firm believer in the truth at all costs :) My parents told me I coudln't keep one snake, unfortunately for them I was one of those kids that never listened...lol :p Here's some good pointers you can use to help warm your parents up to the idea of having a rosy.......

- extremely easy to care for, just be sure to keep humidity low
- if you wanted to go away for a few days it woudln't be a worry since they only require water for one day every few weeks
- super docile, in general rosies are probably one of the most docile species of snake out there and only bite if they mistake you for food - and of course some babies might nip as with any species
- stay very small, usually no more than 3 feet but typically smaller; one of mine is at his full length at only 21"
- can't hurt anyone
- aren't problematic snakes
- slow-moving when handled
- no smell
- you can take it with you to college or an apartment since they are so small and compact
- they are economical to maintain, much cheaper than a dog or cat
- can live in a 10 - 15 gallon terrarium their entire lives

Anywho, there's a few pointers. Hope it helps. And I hope you do convince your dad, they are really great little snakes! :D

LoL, I agree with Linds on the truth thing. Though I don't always practice it myslef, if you can make things happen with the truth instead of a lie you are better off in the long run.

That's a good point - but does not sharing everything count as lying? I'm bad about that... just leave out a few unimportant details...

Thanks for the tips Linds, I'll definatly look into it.
Time to start looking for a job again... o.o;
