View Full Version : Just a normal or something more?
I've had this little girl now for about 6 months now, and she just keeps getting redder and redder with each shed. Im finding it harder and harder to believe that i just have a normal.. Let me know what you think.. Keep in mind, this pic does absolutley no justice for this snake, i am having an extremely hard time capturing its true color. Jeff ******** has agreed to come up with his camera over the holidays where we will share a few beers some laughs and snap some pics.. lol (i guess you can come too Shane)

I believe a high red animal like that would be great to pair up with a high red male to get pastels from the breeding?? I am not 100% sure but i believe pastel boas are bred from 2 high red animals?1? maybe someone can clarify this??

True Pastels are from two Bloodlines, EBV and Jeff Ronne. Both lines were from line bread Colombian animals with reduced melanin. Some Pastels do exhibit nice reds and pinks but they were originally bred for the reduction of pigmentation.
Some consider the Pastels to be a true "Genetic" mutation considering that some of the offspring from a Pastel to a normal will be born resembling the Pastel parent. Some have even called the Pastel a "co-dominant" form but there is still some that believe it's not. Simply line breeding animals for their selective coloration or patterns will to a degree repeat itself each generation
IMO a safe bet is to simply call the animal a "High Pink" or "High Red" depending on the individual animal but there are many people calling their animals "Pastels" when they are really just nice normals. It's really just in the eyes of the beholder. :)
Beautiful animal Matt! :D
