Boas average 5-8 feet, occasionally getting larger. If $180 is hard to come up with I would wait on getting one because its a snake that will cost more money in its housing and care. Most fit fine in an enclosure 4 feet by 2 feet, but the bigger ones will need something bigger. From your post I feel that its not a good idea for you to get one at the moment, with money being tight and mother who has found her limit for now.

If the snake costs 180 then I would say you need at least three hundred to have everything you need for it. I would also advise you not to get it. Sounds like money and mom are big issues for you now. Not to mention that you already have to dump one of your pets to get another. That irritates me a bit. Take care of the animals you have. When you have the money and mom agrees or you've moved out then pursue another one. But don't dump your corn on someone else just so you can get something new. You make a commitment when you buy these animals. Stick to it, unless you can guarantee that the person it goes to is more committed to keeping one and capable of taking just as good of care for it.

PETCO sells em for 180, that prolli where he's talking about. Don't get one from there, they way overcharge and sometimes don't take too good of care of their snakes. I stole 2 boas from a petco in a neighboring town and they were great but I eventually gave em up. Try LLLreptile like dude said or zoologicalsupply.com or something like that, they sell em cheap and have pretty good quality animals. I actually won a $20 gift cert from the 2nd just cuz I signed up for the newsletter! As for the enclosure, try a plastic sterilte tub from walmart. You can get a shoebox sized one for a baby and a sweaterbox or larger one for an adult and they are really cheap. Just put newspaper on the bottom and a water dish for smaller ones that won't tip it. And the money...most people's problem area. Go over any income and expenses and make out a budget report for a couple months to see if you have enough money to buy and keep a snake. Take in mind the snake's going to be around $100 to get shipped and everything, plus you have to feed it once a week. Also with your mom, "what mommy doesn't know won't hurt her." I recently moved back in with mine and she told me not to have any snakes cuz she's tired of em(kept em almost all my life). I was good for about 2 weeks, then I couldn't stand being away from my little baby so I brought him home and kept him in my closet. Since then I've gotten 3 more and have them secure and hidden if you aren't looking. Never knew a thing until a couple days ago when she came in my room and saw a 10' skin tacked on the wall over my closet. Guess I was asking for it, but she was cool and even said I could build cages cuz the tubs are getting small. Anyways, if you don't want to sneak it you can try asking over and over or keeping it at a close friend's house. Think about it. Oh, and if you get one, maybe think about breeding rats(1 male 2 gals) for your snakes cuz food starts to get expensive once you go up in numbers.

do you really think suggesting someone secretly keep a boa constrictor is a good idea? I do not, but thats just me.

Snake 101 when you get permission I would go ahead. Until then, enjoy the snakes you have.

As for leaving them with a close friend, I also do not think that is a good idea for numerous reasons, if you need me to elaborate i will.

And redtails how big is that closet that you are keeping 4 african rock pythons in?
IMO keeping four snakes that are as big and generally aggressive as rock pythons in someones house, relative or not, without their knowledge is irresponsible, idiotic, and very disrespectful(especially when they made it clear they didn't want any snakes in their house to begin with). Suggesting others do the same is ridiculous.

I no longer keep them in the closet, but they were babies-6' and in suitably sized enclosures. Hey, I was just letting him know that there are ways around some stuff. I don't think it's idiotic or irresponsible in the least, although somewhat disrespectful there are worse things you can do by far.

Well in the snake world people buy and sell snakes all the time. So i wouldnt feel too bad about getting rid of one snake for another. They aren't like dogs, they can get pretty tame but they dont get emotionally attached to you. What they really need is ideal living conditions as long as you are making sure that is happening then you have nothing to feel bad about. Maybe find someone who is into breeding corns that might be interested in your snake. The real issue is that you shouldnt make any moves without your parents consent and without proper housing.

i agree with litesnsirens the snake is not going to starting weeping all it wants is a good living condition and food. although the snake might take a little while to aclamate. just try not to move it more than once.
