View Full Version : russian tortoise
im going to be receiving a russian tortoise soon from my friend because hes going away to college and cant take it with him. ive been reading up about them and whatnot and they seem simple to take care of. i have two questions though. first of all, is there any way to tell how old she is? shes fairly large, but he doesnt know how old she is. and secondly, he said that he puts her in shallow warm water once a week to help her poop. i havent read anything about that in anything ive seen. i was wondering if that is necessary? or maybe his tortoise is sick or something and he does that because it helps her?
Hi Cedric...
There is no way to tell how old she can be...The only thing we can said when we look to a torts is if it's a baby, a juvenil, or an adult !!;)
For the soaking, you should do that every other day if it's possible or once a week.
Soak them on luckwarm water...She gonna drink and rehydrating herself...
Enjoy your new tort !!

Generally if the tortoise was bought at a petstore the tortoise would of been almost or full grown if so then it was roughly around 5 to ten years of age.
thanks for the help.
and it wasnt purchased at a pet store, it was from the reptile show in white plains ny, about 2 years ago or so. and she's defintely full grown, but we just have no idea of how old she is.
about how long should the soaking last?

For soaking just put in a dish that she can climb in and out of and remember not to put too much water in the dish for she could drown!
ok thanks for your help. if i have any more questions or run across any problems ill be sure to ask
You can soak them about 10mins...
