vivarium mold help...

hello

i have a very natural vivarium (my first) with some driftwood i found at the cottage. I've cleaned the driftwood the best i can but i'm starting to get a small amount of mold on the surface. So i gave the tank more ventillation, but i still have the mold. Is there a way to get rid of it for good, or is it not a problem and i should just leave it?

It will come down to how much humidity you have in the viv.If you can stick it in the oven to dry it out real good,then use a few thick coats of polyurathane, it will stop the mold in most cases. In case you don't know its like a clear wood stain that will leave the wood LOOKING wet.

Sorry this reply is a little late, but it does not sound like mold at all to me. If you found the drift wood next to a lake, more likely than not it's moss, not mold. the wood you buy at the pet store is also heat treated, unless they went out and salvaged it at the local lake. I normally toss my wood/decorations in the dish washer (without the soap). the hot water will rinse most of the snake crap and gross stuff off, and the heated drying will most likely kill any unwanted bacteria and stuff that is growing on the wood/decorations. A lot of people won't do this simply because you wash your dishes in a dish washer, but as I said before, it will kill most if not all the bacteria in the dish washer cycles. Plus I run a empty load with bleach after i wash the other stuff.

A little off topic, but how many of you have found two month old left overs in the back of the fridge which is full of mold, and washed the container in the dish washer? The mold dies in there.
