Help!!!

Ok I am new to this site, in which I found on the internet while searching for information about a snake in which I have had no luck. I thaught maybe someone on here could help. I am not sure which forum to put this in so I just picked this one. The other day I seen a snake I have never seen before in the hills of East Kentucky. This snake was in between 6 and 8 feet long...It was solid black with, get this, yellow bands(rings) around its body from head to tail. It also had a diamond shaped head...Kinda like a rattle snakes head. If someone could help me by providing some information on this snake...Is it venomus??? Is it at all dangerous to me or any one else??? PLEASE HELP

unless you are exaggerating the length, the snake is not venomous. if it was truly that long it is probably a black rat snake or some other species of colubrid, which would make it harmless. im guessing your not a snake enthusiast. if this is the case, your best bet is to leave the snake alone and it shouldnt bother you. if you have any other questions, feel free to ask:)

I am not exaggerating a bit on the length. There is a couple of members on here that have an avatar that looks like the color of the snak I have seen.

If what you saw wasnt like any of those, chances are its an escaped pet. What you describe kind of sounds like a jungle carpet python, maybe do a search online for them too to see if thats what it was.

The statement about seeing one in South Carolina pretty much sealed it for me. It was likely a rat snake. Black rats might be found there, though I didnt find them listed on the site that DaemoNox posted. Adult black rats arent always solid black but sometimes could look to a novice to be banded. It seems highly unlikely that it was a jungle carpet python. I have a buddy who has seen some mightly large black rats as well.

It was slender....the one my father seen looked as if it had not eaten in a while....the one I seen look pretty skinny too, but what messed me up was the head shaped like a rattlesnakes...

What's that suppose to mean??? I hate snakes...I found this forum and used it to see if any one knew anything about the snake I seen. Is that something bad? Oh by the way I am a girl.

Only that as a general rule, we here on sSnakeSs LOVE snakes.
Your post reeked of a troll at first to me.
Trying to i.d. a snake is fine and yours by the size would be a black rat if anything.
Many snakes will flatten their heads in a defensive posture.
8' is a large, large n. American snake!
Girl or boy, man or woman makes no difference to me.
I hope youwill get some pics of this monster snake and post them.
Otherwise I'd say "live and let live".
Where exactly (county) do you live? That may help some too.
Openly saying your favorite snake is a dead snake on a site that is dedicated to Reptiles and their keeping would be much like saying "dead collies are cool"
on a DOG site..

I live in the far eastern part of Kentucky.. Knott County....Very close to Pikeville if you know where that is.

it doesnt really matter what kind of snake it is as long as u leave it alone
