View Full Version : Camra for christmas
Hi Im hoping for a digicam for christmas I was looking at the kodak ls443 but the DX4330 is more realistic. What do you all think of these choices? Also anyone in the k-w or even GTA know of the best price around let me know please.

Check the reviews for both cameras at Steve's Digicams - Camera Reviews (http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html)
You can even get a quick run-down of the features, sample photos and all the specifications. If you're not inclined to read the manual (like .. um ... some others of us here  ) the site shows which button does what and how.
As for K-W sources, I haven't looked for a camera in about a year, but that store on Queen North between King and Duke (Heers?) had the best selection and info when I was out looking last summer.
You could check if Amazon.com has the model you want. I got mine (Olympus C3030) from there via Borderfree.com and saved about $600 CDN to boot.

I have a Kodak DX3500 and it's in the same line of cameras I think. Mine works great. I wish it had an optical zoon but otherwise it's a great camera for what I paid.

ZDnet also has online reviews, thats what convinced me to go with the Minolta S404

very hardcore in depth digi camera reviews. I second the previous a40 suggestion. Thats the camera I was going to get but I ended up with an s30 because I liked the option of having two video modes.
I love it. I mean it doesn't support additional lenses, which kinda sucks (Id love to get a canon g*) but for what I use it for which is taking lots and lots of average composition photos it rules. I mtbike a lot and it rocks having the ability to take video shots of people launching ladder drops and other cool b.c.ish trail stunts....plus snake feeding videos are pretty interesting as well :p Its as good as any other 3mpx camera. My complaints are as follows:
1. sometimes the ccd picks up a lot of red. hard to tell but if you work with digital pictures a lot it shows up from time to time (especially in photos with a lot of natural red tones).
2. the button used to navigate menus (i.e. up/down/left/right) is also the same button used to "set". this is a ******** design and really actually takes practice to do consistently.
3. it does NOT come with an ac adaptor. that is really a pisser. you have to buy it for like $30US.
other than that it rocks, accepts type I/II cards (yay for microdrives) its a handy take everywhere camera that has a slightly bigger feature list than your average elph type digicam.
I'm using the Kodak DX 4900 and I'm pleased with it. I'm not a very technical person and I've figured out how to work everything! Good camera, easy to figure out!
I can spend closer to 700 after taxes would you still recommend the same? or what so far i think i still want the kodak but i am really lookin into the other that are mentioned i like the fact it has a 4 mp video with sound and countinus video only dependent on size of memory you have i would like a few more options but im very new to this and dont know what half the funtions are but i learn fast when it interests me please the more opinions the better because this is a huge investment for us. anyone with a Ls443 that could giv eme there personal opinion with them
I like the Sony Mavica CD series. The total initial cost is higher but you get really really cheap media (180MB for a few dollars is hard to beat).
went with the canon s30 cause of all the cool features if im going to get into photography this is the camra to keep me interested with features galor and good picks too
I am kinda shopping for one myself, and am currently deciding between the Canon A40, Nikon coolpix 2500 and the Nikon coolpix 3500. Both take excellent pics, especially macro shots. The A40 is about CDN$350, the coolpix 2500 is CDN$450 and the coolpix is CDN$600. The only difference between the 2500 and the 3500 is that the latter is 3.1 megapixels.
I would really like the coolpix 4500, but it is wayy over my budget (CDN999).

I have just purchased the Sony Cyber-shot 3.2 mega pixels. Futureshop has a great deal @ $549 and they throw in allsorts of freebies with it. Just started working with it and the pics look good. I have been using the auto focus mode a fair bit as I am hopeless at reading instructions at my ripe old age!! Good luck in your search.

the Minolta S404 is a 4 megapixel, does great macros, has a movie mode with sound (haven't tried it yet), uses compact flash, is fairly easy to operate, and runs about $499 USD which is the cheapest 4 mp camera I know of.
