View Full Version : got answers?
Ive recently have purchased a baby ball python and had a couple questions about their first feeding.1 how long does it take a baby to eat?2.)what is the best thing to offer them?3)it first weighed 77.7 grams on may 05 and now weighs 68.6 grams in ten days difference is that something I should be alarmed about? thank you much dude
hello
first has it shed yet? because u dont want to feed it untill after its first shed. next leave it alone for about 1 week once you have brought it home & have it set up in its "cage". then try to get it feeding on rats that way when it is an adult it will be cheaper to feed it one rat then 3-4 mice. its firt meal sould be proably be rat pinky size. try feeding it at night that is when i find you will get a better responce from babys. if you need to u can also sent the first meal or 2 with a mouse to get the snake more intreasted in it.
hope this helps

To start off the snake is young and sometimes it aked a while for it to eat. It should havs it's food down in about 30 mins. #2 the best thing to try to feed it are small mice. Are you feeding frozen or live? #3 it just move to a new home and waight loss shouldn'd be a problem. You have to think grams are not a lot of weigh. Leave it alone for a few days and let it get to feeling at home. Also give it a place to hide in it's cage. a box with a hole in it works fine

Best bet is to contact the person you bought it from as they are the ones that should be providing all this info to you. They should know the history of the snake & its past feedings. This is something that should have been done prior purchase from them. Whenever buying a new snake always ask what its been feeding on & how often. Unless you have lots of experience never buy an unestablished snake (non feeding etc). In the case of baby BPs make sure that they are already established on FT mice or rats, if not buy one elsewhere. Anyhow back to feeding, all husbandry must be correct, housing hot & cold temps etc. to start with & then go with what has worked in the past (back to asking the seller). If no seller info provided go with FT mice or rats warmed up nice & hot & offer to snake using tongs "tease feed" style. Try this weekly for a few weeks. You may have to break down & offer it a small live mouse or a live pinkie or fuzzy rat. Past feeding info would help you the most. Mark
