I have a 94 Grand Cherokee 4.0L HO 4x4. It won't start.
I can't afford a mechanic so I'm trying to fix it myself, how ever I don't really have the first clue of what I'm doing. I have the repair book but I am still lost.
The engine cranks, almost catches sometimes but doesn't run.
There's lots of battery so battery isn't an issue.
There is no fuel pressure. We pulled the relay and it flips back and forth accordingly. I've pulled the connector to the fuel pump and its getting power. The fuel pump was making a Whirring noise when you put the key to the on position but not when you put the key to start.
When the key is in the on position the fuel pump relay gets 12v power for a brief second and no more, when in the start position it gets voltage no problem.
I don't know if this means anything but for the longest time the Jeep wouldn't start unless the lights were on, wouldn't even crank.
Oh and Wednesday I did get it to start, let it idle 5 min, drove it 15 min at speeds of up to 90k (so all 4 gears were in use) only to have it stall while coasting down hill, I got it started and drove home from there but since then I haven't had any luck.
I don't know much but I know this: it's not the alternator or the starter.
