Gawd! I've been bit by a pictus gecko, a true fire skink, a blue tongue skink, a spotted python, a carpet python, a cornsnake, 3 amazon tree boas...
I have to say the worse bite out of all of those was the Pictus Gecko, he's the only one that held on and made me drip blood. lol

hi jenn...lol...sounds like a pretty good collection of bites. personly ive lost count of mine...lol...the more memorable ones were gettin wrapped up by one of our burms ,a 18 foot female ,our afrock snapped off two teeth in my knee ,my biggest female redtail chewed up my bicep real good and im trying to forget what my pair of sumatrans did...lol...thats just off the top of my head. if i tried to remember them all id start wondering why the hell ive been keeping snakes for so long...lol...keep the bandages handy...catch you later...ps. what happened to this site? its real quiet...

Most of those bites weren't from my pets. They were from unloading newly shipped pet reptiles at the pet store I work at. Haha

I have probly been bit by 100 hundred different kinds of snakes, lol, but my retic is probably by far the worst, she has a habbit not to let go, once, she tried to swallow my hand, shes getting better everyday though:medclown:
In case I do get bit by my BCC and raps around me, what should you do or what should I not do?
I'de like to know what everyone has done when their snake bit them and wrapped around.
Just so that I know what to do in the future.
Thanks,
Paolo
hi paolo...theres a few old diehard tricks for gettin a big snake off you. but not all of them work all the time...lol...the only foolproof way is to have lots of friends around if you are handling a big one. a few years ago i got wrapped up by one of our burms. a 18 footer over 2 hundred pounds. plus she had burried her teeth in my bicep and covered her head with her coils. the pressure was unbeleivable. six of my very large buddies saved the day...lol...some things that do work is cigarette smoke blown rite into their nose. that has worked for me. whisky poured into there mouth can work ,but what a waste. hot water poured over them ,never tried that one but im told it works. same with ice cold water i guess. the most important thing is NEVER panic and have help with bigger ones. i can trace all my mishaps over the years back to the fact it was my fault...hope this helps you out a bit...

A small bottle of rubbing alcohol kept right handy works well. Dump it in the snakes face/mouth area & it will likely release quick. mark
thanks Mark and Marz.

Ouch. Id have to say that doesnt look to bad, considering the size of that snake.
ive had my burm wrap up my dog once:skull: . it was scary.
ive only been bitten twice but they made it count. 14 retic and a 11 foot burmese python basically the worst u can get before venomous

Wouldn't have been feeding response bite(s) by any chance eh? Mark
Edit - also see above about Retic trying to eat hand & various other examples in relation to other thread on "Instinct" drec91 ;)
it wasnt because of an eating response i had just gotten it and it was in shed. probably nervous and was not use to its surroundings. which brings up another point that u feel so insitant to keep mentioning, that snakes are not 100 percent instinctual. and that snakes do have a state of mind gonesnakee

Well in your "bites" they may have just been bites, but in the other cases mentioned above where the snakes "wrapped & constricted" thats pure "killer instinct" whether you can accept the reality of it or not LOL I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Cheers Mark
P.S. the "worst" I was ever "constricted" was by a female Jungle Carpet Python that was around six feet. She decided she was going to try & eat me one day LOL By the time I got her off my arm it was all purple & "pins & needles" & thats just a little snake. Wouldn't want to be "wrapped" by a "big one" too bad.
of course that is killer instinct. i never doubted the fact snakes kill on instinct. all animals including humans consume food on instinct in a snakes case kill and consume. It is called survival instinct. i disagree on your statement that snakes are "purely instinctual". Your misinterpretation of my statements are putting words into my mouth and confusing the whole matter. The fact that snakes can be trained is a single rebuttle to your opinion. Altering of instincts as you put it does not make sense. If a snake is imprinted with certain instincts those instinct do not change unless thought process is forcing it to do so.
P.S you should really read more Darwin

The point I was making about bites has to do with the topic of snakes trying to eat people. When a snake bites & constricts it is considering you to be prey & is not thinking about it, just acting on pure instinct. It is not "thinking" about the fact that humans are not normal prey or that we are the top of the food chain nor that it is impossible for it to even eat us (in the case of most all snakes except larger large Boids). It is acting solely on instinct be it Killer or otherwise LOL. Not to dis yourself or Darwin, but no time to read up on old theories on evolution etc. I'll leave that to students as I am too busy actually "working" with snakes myself. Thing about classrooms & books is that they tend to stray aways off the path of actual "practice". Personally I consider hands on interaction or "experience" over "studies" anyday. Someone that works with numerous species for mulltiple hours on a daily basis (such as myself - toots own horn LOL) will observe & learn things never printed or discussed in any text book. A running joke with myself & many other friends (breeders I know) is "but the book says" LOL as more often than not "the books" wrong or not very informative at all in many cases. I know many folks that are "book learned" in reguards to snakes that really don't know much about caring for & breeding them at all. I know many more others that may or may not even have grade 12 that with their hands on experience are far more knowledgable than many of those with actual degrees. Sure they know all the scientific terms & theories & the latin names etc. but when it comes to actually working with snakes they really don't know whats up as they have only read about them. Long story short I'll go with the word of an experienced breeder more often than not when it comes to snakes & their habits etc. To each their own, Cheers Mark
i understand your point about hands on experience and that it is probably true but it is never bad to read what the father of evolution had to say on the topic. i myself prefer hands on as well as reading. Everything that you believe about instinct would not exist if werent for guys like Darwin and Chambers, but we all have our different methods. To say that Darwins books are not informative is ridiculous. Is evolution not an important topic to you? I guess not. In my own personal experience reading has helped me with my breeding. It really all depends on what you are passionate for. I think by reading literature and working with snakes i have recieved the best of both worlds.

Whom is putting words in whoms mouth LOL I never said that, even went so far as to say "Not to dis..." ;) I actually have a friend who's breeding business is called "Darwin's Oasis" :) Never hurts to sit & read if one is so inclined. In my case recent literature put out by other breeders/hobbiests is the most informative. Cheers Mark

Lizards give the worse bites. Not including large boids and the like. I've just had more lizards hang on and chew away then snakes really care.
I don't even remember what has bitten me. The first ever was a baby spotted python who wanted to eat my finger.

The monitors we got are pastels. It is something new to the monitor world from what I am told. I was holding it and checking out the colors and patterns on it and the damn evil thing flipped back and up and got me.

Not to minimize your pain and suffering but that is just hilarious. As far as lizards go I have only been bit by a tokay but that wasn't much fun. Got nailed by a Ornate Frog(pacman forg) and that thing would not let go. Todd
