Well one of my buddies has a turtle, and I never payed much attention to it because I never really had a huge interest in them. But what I did notice was it has no heating of any kind, and its in a 10 gallon! It is easily the size of my hand...and I always thought turtles needed alot of room to swim and such?
What should I prepare for this turtle before I take him?
Thanks in advance!
Hey bud ,if you could give a little more detail on the kind of turtle and such that would help out alot.

I am guessing you are aquiring a res ? (red eared slider) in any case, it sounds like the tank it is in is way to small. I believe the standard is 10 gallons per inch of turtle but the bigger the better. If you do not have any larger aquariums on hand, a large rubbermaid will work just as well. Other pointers... yes they need heating, a basking spot out of the water where they can dry off if they want to and a filter system. I would use a bare bottem (no gravel) as its easier to keep clean.

RES's are easy your right if he's that big he needs a bigger cage and he should have a flourescent light to keep him warm I would go for like a 50 gallon to spoil him but I think a 30 or 20 gallon will suit him well. You should also have a filter to help clean the cage. And feed him fish and give him a flaoting log or something to bask on and bask on so try to tie it down to the bottom under the light. Good Luck!!
