I was watching some show...deadly predators...or something like that. Most of it was pretty interesting. Did you know that peregrine falcons can dive at speeds up to 180 mph...wow.

Anyway...they had some wild retics that they searched out in a big cave...cool. They also said that the local villagers would kill big ones when they saw them because they were worried it would eat their livestock and/or children. They showed one that had been recently killed :( but it has just eaten a HUGE meal. It could easily have been a human. They cut the snake open. It was a wild pig of some sorts but it was HUGE...easily 10 times the girth of the snake's body. They said its weight was about equal to the snake's weight.

I wish I had a picture of that to show people that are worried about moving their baby snakes up to the next size of mouse...lol...then again, maybe the snake died because of eating such a big meal...prevented it from escaping the villagers anyway.

I was watching the Discovery Channel (the only other thing I do when Im not on this site) and alot of the time a feel they give a bad rep to snakes and crocodiles they always say "man eaters" or as you where watching "deadly predators" I think life would suck without herps though.

I cool thing I watched before was that some Anacondas have actually hunted down people!! I dont think its true but hey you never know.

the problem is they call them man eaters cause they are looking for ratings.... which would you find more excite ment... the rat eaters of yaddayadda or the man eaters of yaddayadda the only way to change this is not watch the program

Peregrine Falcons are actualy the fastest animal on the planet! 180mph, wow. There are a couple of them living in an office building in downtown London On. Ca.

Amazing how they adapt.

Yeah, that's true lisa, i hate how they do that stuff just to get good ratings. I was watching that show on Animal Planet called:
The Most eXtreme. Its kewl, and it had the peregrine falcon on it. It was about speed. But anyways, i love animals planet, its awesome. I was watching it once and it was showing a Burm trying to eat a antelope. OMG!!!! IT WAS SOOOOOOOO FRICKEN HUGE AFTER IS FINALLY SWALLOWED IT! It was like 15 times it original size! (minus a little exaduration) ;) :p

Retics are man eaters.. They dont hunt man by choice but if a kid bumps into one its food.. It isnt done for ratings. Have you seen some of the crap they put on animal planet? some of the shows sound soooooo boring.. I dont think they're hurting for ratings.
Everything that appears on these forums turns into a complaint!! i think it's cool they title them like that, people take them alot more seriously that way. I think people should be informed when purchasing a retic, that one day it could be a danger.

Anyone seen that show with the dude who thinks hes an insect? whats it called, Insectia? that goes to show they dont worry about ratings. that guy is a nutcase.

J.J. --- U sure that was not a Rock python instead of a molarus.. Burms are not know for eating such large prey items .. although it is possible..

Man i wish i had the Animal planet .. Too cheap to afford it :(

Animal Planet does get a little "extreme" for me when presenting herps, but I feel that the good often outweighs the hype as they do a lovely job of showing the beautiful, fascinating side of herps. It's also good to let folks know that herps must be handled with respect. They are very strong and quick and many people cannot predict when a strike will happen. Not everyone is as tolerant of getting tagged as crazy herpers like me.

There are always going to be people that think a tiny little garter snake is a devil straight out of hell and those are the folks most convinced by the hype, IMHO. Kids eat those shows up and gain some respect for the animals. Most of the kids I know have less fear of my herps after seeing one of those shows than they did before, plus they've gained some knowledge about different species.

I just wish it weren't so expensive and time-consuming to film decent animal programs. There's so much repetition and a lot of similar programming on those channels.

yeah i saw that one on animal planet it was a rock eating the antelope. they were also telling a story that a rock had eaten a small boy , 6 or 7, from the local village and according to the specialist they had come he said that that is what it probably was. he said it was the first time there was actually hard evidence of a rock killing and eating a human . there atleast anyway. yes animal planet is a great channel. part of basic cable here haha sorry. i do enjoy O'Shea's Adventures and Steve Irwin. O'Shea is great with all the rescues and what have you. i love when hes like " black ammba, very lethal...........lets go in." I love when Steve Irwin almost crys too. i like seeing that emotion for animals.
