Unless your male looks like an ethopian child, he'll be fine. As for the age, year - year and a half.

The best weight for a male crested is 35 g. But be carful that your breeders
are the same size when you introduce them because at first usally they don`t
even think about breeding. Cesties sort out domenence of basking spots and other favorite areas. If your not ready to sepate than you mite descover a lost
tail.

I would wait until they have both put on atleast 5 grams. People say you can breed females at 35grams, but more would agree that 40grams is a safer weight. You want your female to be as healthy and chunky as possible before putting her through the stress of growing eggs.

Males can tend to drop some weight when they start to breed, as they are more interested in the females than the food. This is why it's good to get them up to 35grams, then if they lose up to 5 grams (which hopefully they won't), they will be ok. If they do lose 5 grams, and are 35grams, then it is time to pull him out of there before he gets too skinny.

As could be deduced from my post, both of your male/female could stand to gain another 5 grams, so you should wait until spring, or until they gain those 5 grams. This would be in the best interest of your cresties.
