Im back to working on my cage and was wondering if anyone uses human heat pads (how do these work)? or is there anything else that I could use?
Thanks in advance

You will find (if you ask) that people do use these to heat their herp's enclosures. 1. They are cheap & 2. They usually have a built in control low-med-high.

People have used them for years without any problems...people have also lost their housed & animals because of them. I don't know if there is a warning on them or not but they are not designed to be left on 24-7.

Use an Under Tank Heat pad...available at most pet stores or get some heat tape...available through the mail from US dealers like beanfarm.com

A UTH should be hooked up to a rheostat or thermostat. This combined with one or more heat lamps (with timers) and/or ceramic heat emitters (available at pet stores) should give you the tool to create a healthy environment for your critters.

Hope this helped.

Thanks Mike
I built a melamine enclosure and have about 3 inches of sand in the bottom. I was wondering you I could put the UTH in the enclosure but under the sand?

We use them in all of our enclosures, usually underneath plexi or acrylic... and on a low temp. setting - our babies seem to love them.

You could put it under the sand...but you have to make sure there is no chance of spilling water on it...it might be OK and it might not. They could get down to it and maybe even scatch through the coating...best not to risk it. You could still have a UTH under the tank and it would heat up the sand...but through melamine and sand...maybe not very much.

Maybe try heat lamps and/or ceramic heat emitters.

I have used and used both real reptile UTH and human heat pads and i can say this from experiences .. i have had two of the Zoo Meds UTh burn down ( I MENA BURN LITERALLY) and I have never experienced it with a human heat pad ..

There cheaper and have a setting ..

So you would say that I could leave them on 24/7 with out having to worry about burning down my house? Also I was wondering where I would put this in the cage?
Thanks alot

I keep both boa enclosures with the human pads, 24/7 under the indoor/outdoor carpet, opposite end from the water

I use human heat pads 24/7.. and it heats thru the sand/soil in my tanks 3-4 inches of soil.

I use the low setting in the summer and med in the winter..

Tim .. I am sayiong i do it and know several ppl who use it 24 / 7 and never had any porblems .. I think its safe but its for u to choose in the end..

I think personally anything left on 24/7 has a chance to go bad eventuallly... Its a matter of whts more trustworthy
