View Full Version : Jungle/Coastal
I am getting ready to buy a Carpet Python from one of the classifieds on this site but not familar with the different common names. On the add it says Jungle Carpet Python for sale but when I ask the specific species they said it was a coastal.
Is there a difference or is one interchangable with the other? I love Carpets but would like to know a little more before I buy.

They are different subspecies. Jungle Carpet Python (Morelia s. cheynei) Coastal Carpet Python (Morelia s. mcdowelli). One name is not interchangable with the other, entirely different snakes. They are all part of the same species - Carpet Pythons (Morelia spilota) & can be inter bred with one another, but are definitely different snakes. Jungles don't tend to get as big as Coastals & Jungles also tend to be black & yellow tones where Coastals are usually have more of a grey green color to them instead of the yellows the Jungles have. What do you think?

Looks like neither a jungle or coastal to me but an IJ Carpet (morelia spilota variegata) from New Guinea

Could be IJ they tend to look more like that with more browns & reds. I'd say that too over JCP or CCP judging by the pic. Mark
