Help: do you know what kind of snake this is???

Hi Guys,

I bought a snake last saturday here in Manila. The seller told me that it's a water python, but I am not sure if it really is because I don't know anything about snakes. I asked some of the local forumers here in Manila and they told me it's not a python. He assumes that it's some kind of a water snake.

Would you know what kind of snake this might be? Is this venomous? (i guess not coz i've been petting it since saturday). What kind of environment should I put it.

I don't know what type of snake that is. But next time, before you buy, try researching first off.

Could you get a pic of the head?

Definately a spotted. If you're looking for how to care for one, google it. You will find hundreds of care sheets to work with. Everyone should reserch a pet before they get one, it is very irresponsible and not fair to the animals. Good luck with him/her spotteds are awsome snakes.

I don't think its a spotted myself & don't think anyone can tell if it is from that pic. A clear pic with the head will be required for proper ID. Chances are the snake is local to Manilla? More info & clearer pics are defintiely required to properly ID it. Mark

I see you put new pictures in the gallery. It's not a spotted python, or any other python as far as I can tell. There's no heat-pits that I can see, and I think the scales are too large for a python. I have no idea what it is, but look how high on the head the eyes and nostrils are. That suggests water-snake of some kind to me. There's a high chance this is a "rear-fanged colubrid" of some sort. I wouldn't let it chew on me until I knew exactly what it is.

Looks an awfull lot like "dog-faced water snake" aka Cerberus rynchops. It's local, mildly venomous rear-fanged (not harmful to humans), and quite common.

I was just goin to say that it is a Brockadam-Cerberus rynchops, the only python species found on that island is the reticulated python. It is a rear fang mildy venoumous water snake that is not harmful to humans.

you need to give it a hiding spot if you want it to survive in captivity, they eat frogs and fish.
also some water since it is an aquatic snake that spends most of its time in the water.
