hello,
well I bought some knew fake plants for my BPs incloser, and I was just teasting them out with a spray bottle and when they get wet green dye comes off, not alot only when you rub it.
is this bad? should I not use these plants?
oh ya, and my other BP the one that just started to eat has been in shed for a few weeks now, I've given her warm baths and the hum is at 60% one side and 50% or lower on the other side. should I help rub off the rest of the shed its only on her belly. I'm just worried cuz she's been eating and could go into anouther shed.
thanks any advise would be great
Mi
As for the green die - hmmm - you'll have to get someone elses oppionion but for the shed, when I have a snake that has parts of his shed not comming off, I give him as many warm bath (78 - 84 - touch it - it can't be cold to the touch but not really warm either - use a thermometer if u can) as I can and at the end of each bath, I gently rub the old skin with my fingers ..
Don't pull on the skin, if it ain't coming off with a gentle rub, then it is not ready to come off .. Repeat this process as often as you can until u get the full shed off .. did his eye caps come off or not?
When I had one of my ball python have a really bad shed, I gave him 3 to 5, 20 minute bath everyday untl his full shed came off ..
At this rate, it took me two days to get it all off ..
It can get long bbut you really should get that old skin off.
Best of luck,

Grace,
IMO, When dealing with a bad shed....the ventral area (belly) is usually the easiest part to get off.
Depending on the size of the snake, sometimes i cant get a big enough water bowl to have the snake fully submerged underwater, usually ending up with the dorsal area being the hardest part to get off.
It doesn't sound like it will be that hard to get off her shed, but if its stuck like glue, id soak her for longer then 20 minute intervals.
I usually soak them for at least a couple hours all the way up to 5 hours..
When Dave Barker soaks his snakes when treating with mites, he'll soak em up to 12 hours.....as long as u dont do these lengthy soakings continuously u wont have a problem with blisters or rots...
I've noticed that short intervals really only get a bit off at a time and who has days, like Dom said, to do this continuously.
an hour or two and up^ should show good, easy results.
And i've done this many of times.....
It also gives a nervous snake to calm down and relax in the water instead of constantly seeking a way to get out.
Make sure the soaking container is well ventilated, and depending on what the temperature of the water is u can slide a heating mat under or a heat lamp over top.
Although i never do this(heating while soaking), i'll reccommend it because ur snake hasn't been the healthiest of all snakes.
Also, make sure the water is deep enough so ur snake can fully submerge and some, but not too deep that it takes a whole lot of energy to keep afloat.
When, u take her out....let her slither through ur handsputting slight pressure a round the area of old shed, and it will come off in a jiffy.
Just my 1.9999999 cents
Good luck

As for the shed, this works for me EVERYTIME!! without a doubt... Get a snake bag or a pillow case, soak it in warm water, take your animal and put it in the pillow case, tie the end off so he cant get out, put it on the floor or wherever and let the snake slither around in there for about 20 minutes, roaming the wet pillow case will almost ALWAYS get the shed off.... if it all doesnt come off next day do it again but ive never done it more then once... GREAT way to get eyecaps off to :)

Also, about the fake plants...id wash em out thouroughly until no more dye comes out ...then they should be fine...not sure if it is toxic or not but i wouldn't take the chance.
