View Full Version : Still not eating... :S
My cresties still wont eat and I have had them since friday... I keep offering them food, should I keep misting so they are at least getting water? I don't want to actually spray them but I want to make sure they are ok... any suggestions?

Well talk to the person u got it from and asked them what were they feeding the cresteds......secondly what i did when my baby cresteds were not eating was that i dabbed a lil bit of baby food on there nose and they licked it of....and eventually they started eating......One more question what are you feeding them....try making them Hilde's recipe my guys love it

Note they might be more likely to feed at night,as they are nocturnal ,more active at night.Yes mist them.
I feed mine banana, peach or apricot baby food and crickets(dusted). Also a mixture of papaya, bannana, vitamins and calcium mixed in a blender.
I made them a fruit mix of strawberries, mango, banana apple sauce, and I saw one (the larger of the two) drinking from the water dish.
They were eating fruit puree and GGD at the breeders. I just wanna pull them out and tlel them EAT! GROW!!

My guys won't touch anything with apples or an apple sauce in it, perhaps that's why they might not like the smoothy... Apples have citric acid in them, and generally cresteds don't like citrus fruits, so it was logical to me why my guys wouldn't eat anything with apples.
Also, one thing you can try to see if they are infact eating crickets is to remove all the ones in the enclosure now, and then put a set number back in there, like 5. Then count them the next day to see if any are gone, make sure to check for dead ones, as some kick the bucket sometimes.
When I spray my enclosures, the geckos get sprayed on, and they are just fine, if anything, I would say it helps their appetite a bit, as it can wake them up a bit and make them bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for those crickets! I'm not saying to full out give them a shower, but if the spray passes over them once or twice, it doesn't hurt. Plus if you're worried about them having water (I know the one is drinking from the bowl), then if you spray them, the will lick it off their mouthes and eyes, and perhaps realise it's 'water' time and go get a drink off the glass.
What size crickets are you feeding them? Maybe the crickets are too small?
Just tryin' to help!
Goodluck!

If your Cresties are still small they might be eating the fruit mix, but since they are still small they might not bre eating enough that you notice. Hatchling Cresties have small stomachs and it doesn't take much to fill them.
Like Amanda said with the spraying, it gives them a routine, that when it "rains" they get food. And as Nash said try dabbing it on their nose. You might have better luck with crickets with young Cresties as they like the movement more.
One thing that works for me with the fruit mix, is I don't leave it on the florr of their cage. I'll usually have some horizontal branches that the dish will sit on. That way the fruit mix is up where they spend most of there time. hope this helps.
The reson why your little one mite not be eating, is stress that is caused by to much heat or to little heat. What are you useing as a heat sorce?
