What to get?

I just got my early christmas present, a huge exoterra, and because my birthday is so close to christmas, i need to pick something to put in it.

I want something that climbs and looks really great, but is also not insanely crazy to care for. I was originally looking at getting a cham, because its a showcase tank and they are amazing looking animals, but they seem like they are insanely hard to look after. I was also looking at cresties and marble geckos, as my roomate has a fattail and 3 panther geckos.

Any recommendations?

ohh, find some pretty female cresties so you can house a few and go crazy making it into a natural vivaria. How big is this exoterra?

Go with the Chameleon. They are not as hard as people make them out to be. I have a pair of vaileds and a panther and have had more problems with my smallers geckos then my Chameleons. They make awesome show animals. The only drawback i have with them is they don't tolorate each other or me. So if you are looking to handle it then you may want something else.

The exo is 45 x 45 x 45, so its the 3rd size up

I am looking to do some handling, and the tank is going to be right beside my BP tank...my roomate had a cham but said that it got stressed by just seeing his other pets...a couple cresties is what i was originally thinking. Thanks for the suggestions, please keep them coming

I'd put my vote on cresties too. The only thing i find is once you have some, you only want more

chams generally need screen cage the exoterras dont work well for them. Cresties would work much better in there. day geckos are nice too...

Get young tokays. Handle gently at least 3 times a week, and let them chew on you while young. They get used to handling (dont believe anyone who tells you otherwise). They are incredibly beautiful, large and utterly fascinating. Get a group of females, or if you're interested in breeding get 1.2 or 1.3. Dont house multiple males together.

Besides the lack of ventilation, your cage is way too small to house most chameleon species as adults so unless you plan on upgrading, you should only be looking at dwarf chameleons. Certainly the common ones (Panthers and Veileds) grow to big for an 18" cube.

Uroplatus are very cool...leaf-tailed geckos. Smaller Uroplatus should fit in your cage if you want something a bit different. Satanic leaf-tailed geckos (u. phantasticus) would do well in there. They require a lot of humidity (as do most arboreal geckos), but they are from cooler areas, so they tend to thrive in typical room temps.

Of course you cant go wrong with cresties.

i think that's the first time i've ever heard anyone suggest handeling tokays. They are pretty but i've never recommend them for people who want a handelable pet. I also don't think i've ever seen baby tokays for sale, and adults are a fierce force to reackon with. hmm, strange

honestly, I believe almost every lizard has the possibility of being handleable if you do it enough in the beginning. Once it knows your not going to hurt it, theyre usually good

I would recommend crested geckos.

Well aside from all the lizzies, i think you should get a everglades rat snake, they make wonderful display animals, they are a bright orange, they look very good. They also are semi arboreal so if you want something that climbs this guy will do it. They dont get too big around 5 to 6 feet. Just my 2cents hope this helps. :) oh and let us know when you have made your decision, post pics too :)

I'm going to have to say Cresties...they are really interesting and good to handle!! Again like was warned before though you get one and you end up with more!!
