Hi,
I saw something I've never seen before last night with one of my males that is in with a female. It appeared to me that he had what I would imagine was what a prolapse would be (from what I've read in leo discussions). I've seen it when his hemi-penes gets erect, but this looked like it was a large mass of flesh, about the size of a chick-pea that was sticking out of his cloaca. I think it had a little bit of blood on it, but couldn't tell if it was blood from a cut, or if it was just a vein that was very close to the surface. The male was licking at it, trying to perhaps clean and put it back in. It took him about 5 minutes to get back to normal.
I immediately removed the female, as I don't want him to try to stress that part of his body by trying to mate her. I first noticed this about 20 minutes after seeing him fail at copulation. He was almost in position, and just at the very last minute he seemed to forget to hang on to the glass and just dropped off the glass and landed in the pothos below. It was dark, so a bit hard to see exactly what happened, but my hypothesis is that he perhaps had his inner bits pulled out when he fell off of her?...I don't know really.
The point of this post was to ask if anybody had ever had a prolapse in a male crested, and if so, what is the general method following it? I was planning on giving him a break for a while from the ladies, but I wasn't sure how long it should be for, or perhaps I am over reacting and this isn't a prolapse...Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
