I have just been looking on google to find info on the first people to document, and study, reptiles in australia.
i can't seem to be able to find any info on this topic...
does any one know of any sites that could help me....or atlest on the people who first started to study reptiles generaly

The EMBL Database (http://www.embl-heidelberg.de/~uetz/LivingReptiles.html) lists the taxonomic history of most (if not all) reptile species. For instance, Oxyuranus microlepidotus was first described by McCoy in 1879. You could check what names are associated with familiar Australian species to find some early Australian herpetologists.
