Burmese Python:(Need help asap please!!)

Hello everyone. I have a young Burmese Python that I bought a couple months ago. He is about 2.5 feet long and he makes a weird clicking and popping sound sometimes. He has not refused a meal. And he doesnt have bubbles coming out of his mouth or nose that I can see. He looks perfectly healthy in everyway. Anyways can someone please help me out? Thanks for your time

he could have a slight respritory infection. make sure your temps and humidity is correct, check it a few times a day, even at night and make sure your temps arnt droping too low. if they are off and you fix them you might notice him get better, if not keep checking on him and if any thing gets worse take him to a vet.

keep'em relatively hot - and feed him a lot. the heat will help keep the immune system woking in high gear... and the white cells necessary to fight infection kick the virus'/bacteria's arss.

lower the humidity (within the acceptable range)... too much humidity wiil perpetuate the microbes reproductive cycle.

if it starts to look like its trying too hard to breath, then the infection is life threatening. remember snakes only have one lung - if it fills with fluid they will drown.

the popping and clicking is lung cheese being.... well you know when you have a really bad cold, and you exhale hard- you can hear and feel all the crud in your lungs... thats what the sound is... except its different in snakes than humans.

is your snake "coughing" - like opening its mouth and forcefully exhaling? you would know it if you have seen it.

here is some info that might help:

VIRAL RI - caused by a virus, this can make the snake sick - but it will usually pass on its own (may induce bacterial infection). there are no drugs that can "cure" this - just supportive treatment.

BACTERIAL RI - very serious infection and is life threatning. antibiotic treatment is required to make the animal recover. infection can go systemic - and make the liver and kindeys shut down, also the lung can fill up with fluid and snake could drown. diagnosis - physical examination (listening to lung & and examining glottis & mouth for exudate (white cheeze or discharge)). also a chest x-ray can help determine the progress of the illness (how infected the lung is). blood work & cultures will help determine type of microbial infection - this helps determine what type of antibiotic to use (gram (+) & gram (-) organisms are killed by different drugs in most cases, but not all).

as a precautionary measure, it never hurts to take a trip to an experienced vet.
