Hi everyone i was just wondering how to get an eye cap off. He has just shed, it was perfect but i picked him up today and he had an eye cap. Ive dried rubbing it off gently with a towel, it didnt seem to work so i tried tweezers very gently but couldnt get it off. How do u guys take the eye caps off?

well I would guess to just let him soak and it might come off... don't take my word for it though...

You take an eye cap of by running the area under luke warm water and then VERY GENTLY use your tweezers to remove it . If it does not come off easily then continue the process . It make take several attempts. As far as my EASY comment that may have been misleeding. There will be some resistance.

Often if allowed to soak, and given something like a rock in the enclosure the snake will get it off on its own if its irritating, otherwise it will fall off after soaking or come off with next shed hopefully, what you must be careful with though is that another one does not stay on and the it becomes built up with multiple eye caps. Something else I've seen done although don't know if it should be reccommended is a tiny piece of scotch tape and getting the sticky part stuck only to the eye cap, the snake pulls back voila it's off, I don't know, it works really well, but I'm thinking it could be risky for some reason, you'd definately have to have steady hands though, but I guess if your your using tweezers then your hands must be steady lol !!! Anyways hope it comes off for you whatever method you go with.

Personally I wouldnt use tweezers to remove an eyecap. Its a very sensitive area and if you're not skilled in having done this before you could slip and cause your snake some major harm.
As for the scotch tape again same thing could happen. Could pull off more than just that old eyecap if youre not careful or you could get a nasty bite and a stressed snake.
My Ball Python had trouble shedding her eye caps about a week ago and what has worked best for me in the past and this most recent bout was misting the enclosure and the snake with warm water for a few days and then allowing the snake to soak in water at least once a day. If the cap STILL hasnt come off you can wet a q-tip ( really wet ) and gently rub the eye and POP it should come right off.
This has worked for me and seemed to be the least stressful for the snake. Thats not to say other suggestions were bad. This is just a personal opinion of what works for me.
Hope this helps.
