Looking into purchasing a Female Columbian boa (baby). I have read everything I can find about the species on care, temps, humidity, feeding, enclosures, life span ect. and some of the questions I have still go unanswered. I dont wish to double post or revisit a topic thats been beat to death.
But I'm setting up my tank prior to purchasing the snake and I'm having trouble getting the temps to the prescribed levels listed on the net and even here on the care thread. I am using an undertank heater and for basking a ceramic element(60watt) on a 20 gallon long tank. Humidity is at 50%. the thing that I dont understand is the place were temps should be taken one place says ambient air temp and on here it stated surface temp. Which is correct or which should be used? the Temperature gages bought at pet store is currently stuck to the side of the tank 1" above the bottum on the "cool" side and 1" above the bottom in the basking area. Current temps are 75 degrees F and 86 degrees F respectively. What do I need to get my tank to the prescribed temperature?
If there is a thread already on this please forgive me for starting this I am new both here and to owning a snake as a pet and want to make sure I care for it the best I can. I am also interested in any way one can tell the difference between Male and Female.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
