has anyone ever had this problem
I am a little hesitant with my rodents because I read some evidence that black throats are prone to impaction because this is not a regular prey item in the wild ?

From what i know, rats can cause impactions. However if your temps are correct and they have a varied diet theyll be fine. I read in a book once that impactions were more common in boas then monitors, so i hope this opens your eyes a bit.

if monitors have access to a hot enough basking area, they do not get impactions from rodents.

alrighty then
thanks for the info
They can darn near digest anything. My albigs eat rats, mice, peeps, worms (sometimes), roaches (when I do have hissers, not very often), and quail. Also on occasion I give them Nebraska brand feline diet, its a whole ground horse minus the hair, stomach and intestines with whole cranberries, apples, and a few small amounts of veggies with extra calcium and vit D3 added, its made for big cats in zoos.
Low temps, and dehydration (big time dehydration attributes to impactions). You know in over 20 years and many species of reptiles Ive had Ive never seen an impaction at all in my collection, Ive made many other mistakes, I cant imagine how bad those mistakes need to be to cause an impaction, something to think about when someone gives you advice about personal experience with impactions and rodents, they either read it in a bad book or imagine just how bad their animals husbandry is?

not likely.
Improper temps, and dehydration prevent digestion, even rocks, pieces of metal, substrate, and many other things pass through without impacting a healthy reptile of any kind.
