sadly we know that many animals are just impulse buys or something to make the person look cool like a snake. luckily some people do research first. they think about how much money they will have to spend or time they have to devote. but i dont think alot of people think about the life span on their new pet. with the perchase of any animal there should be some thought put into what will happen in the future. are you going to move some where? maybe your pet can go there. perhaps college or another job where you'll be too busy.
especialy with reptiles and birds which most can live 20 years and up, people should always think about what might happen later on. you might think now that you'll just sell it if something happens but some people get very attached to their pets and dont want to sell it to just any body. one thing that might be good is to sort of have a back up person, or know some people who may be able to take your pet if something happens, cause who knows, something could happen to your health (lets hope not, but its possible)
so those are just some things to think about for any one considering geting a pet or already has some. the pet iv had the longest is my tiger salamander, i got him about 7 years ago around the time i was just starting to get into lizards and snakes. i'm sure i'll be really upset when he passes away but right now hes healthy and seems to be doing good. if any one else here has something they'v had a long time (and hopefully is still alive) dog, snake, fish, any thing please share.
