I was woundering if sometimes male and females fight well nip at each other when there is food in there or just in general?

Well it does happen that a male and a female might fight, however chances are if you've got them together and you see this behavior it's probably mating. Which can include biting the females next and pinning her down, and occasionally the female will resist which may make it look like fighting.
