i was just wondering if it would be a good idea to provide a hide box over my heading area for my ball python. i use an under the tank heating pad.

also, is it normal to have an active snake during both night and day?

its ideal to have aleast one hide on the cool side, and one on the warm. balls are not known for being active snakes during the day. all the ones i've had would only come out to explore if it was totally pitch black. misting at night encourages them to come out too.

it doesnt matter where you put your hides as long as you have one on the cool side and one on the hot side. I have three hides, one on the cool side, one on the hot side, and one in the middle. My ball python comes out of hiding mostly at night, and sometimes i dont see him come out at all.

I the temp is right inside the hide box or they dont feel hungry, they normally won't come out. Most of the ball is only active at night.

Just make sure to watch your heat. Putting a hide over the heating pad traps in a lot of the heat, so be sure to measure your temps inside the hide box so you're not over-doing it. It can be a lot hotter inside the hide than it is right outside of it, so keep that in mind. :)

thanx alot!! everyone here is always a big help and i really appreciate your advice and comments. the whole active snake thing was curious to me because my ball python general seems interested in my activities most of the time. everytime i come near him he is eager to see what i'm up too. i will do daily activities around his cage like changing his water dish and he always comes out and begins to "wander" around my arms.

once again thanx for the advice!!

I have one of each. My female always seems to be out but my male just seems to go from hide to hide. It just depends on the snake and their comfort level.
