View Full Version : 2 in 1 cage
i just got a freedom breeder rack for some of my snakes. i had no idea the tubs were going to be so big! there 4 feet long, 2 feet wide and a little under a foot tall. theres alot of floor space on these tubs. iv had my ball pythons in seperate cages their entire lives, would it be ok to put them both in one tub? i'd give them plenty of hides to make them feel comfortable and get away from each other if they needed to. i would feed them in seperate containors as well. by the way the female is 3 feet and the male is 4.5 feet.

Balls should only be housed together when you are attempting to breed them. The rest of the year, they should be housed separately. I'm sure other ball keepers would agree with me.
could some one tell me why exactly?

Lots of reasons. If one gets sick, the other will most definitely fall ill as well if housed together. It also makes it impossible to know who defecated when, which could make you miss something important like a snake with an obstruction. Ball Pythons are also a timid solitary species. It is believed by many that keeping them together causes stress. Basically, should an ill fate befall one, it will almost certainly befall the other as well.
I'm not saying it can't be done, I just feel it shouldn't and I think that most ball keepers would agree.

if your looking to breed you have to keep them seperated (or so i've been told be countless breeders). if they stay together then they become roomates and will prob not produce for you.

thanks for the help every body. i have decided to not try puting them together until i want to breed them. i dont want any thing bad to happen to my wonderful snakies.

you should be ok with that rack.. it will just give you more options... like more hides.. even a humid hide.. ect ect... as long as you provide enough space to stay covered... one ball in that cage should be fine.. just add alot more hides...

If it's long enough you might consider putting in a divider...if you look at the innovative approach that my hubby used for our 6ft aquarium (it was going to waste Missi!) it might generate ideas.
Go to : http://photos.yahoo.com/phenomenon20002 and check out my 6 ft, 100 gallon tank. Maybe you could put in some kind of divider? :2yellow:

i read on a bp site that housing them together could lead to cannibalism
