This is typical of some of the Fl. kings we used to find on the west coast of FL. (Pinellas Co.) Much more black than most.

Did he have some red siding as a hatchling? I'm curious to know how much red my male might retain when he he matures.

Cranwill, this particular strain has very little red as compared to most FL. Most lose all of the red as they mature and the "black" lightens too. The ones like in this pic stay black and yellow. Some resembling an eastern king. I'll try and find some more pics.

What an interesting florida king. I like him!
Is it possible that these are a Florida X Eastern intergrade?
Nice pics!!!!

Well honestly, most are peninsula intergrades which are supposedly getula x floridana. This "strain" (pictured) holds much of the eastern (getula) look. I have however found many in nearby counties that appear much more "Brooksi" (floridana). Len Krysko has some that are very black w/ almost chain like pattern. This particular snake pictured is from one of those dark ones X a more familiar looking one. Within 100 sq. mi. you may find bright yellow, to dull brown, to almost black individuals.

I was going to ask if they had any Holbrooki in them... look a little similar.
