what temps do iguanas need? theres a kid at my school who has to get rid of his iguana and i'd like to get it if my parents will let me. he doesnt know very much about it so i'm assuming its not in the geatest shape but i know he has a uv light, and a big enough enclosure so it should be ok. its pretty amazing how little some people care about their pets. i have to give one of my snakes away and my parents want me to give it to someone near us so i wont have to send it anywhere. i've been asking people at school if they want it. most of them said they arent allowed to have it or wouldnt want it. a few said they already have/had snakes but they dont want another one. most of the people who have a snake say its really mean so they cant pick it up and they forget to feed it or they dont know how to take care of . one kid said he had to kill his green tree python cause it bit him. he fed it TWICE A DAY and one day he didnt feed it the second time so it bit him. he had hid it from his mom and he kept it under his bed. i asked him if he gave it a heat soure an what he kept it in and he said the tank was about a 20 gallon and the heat source was some desk lamp that got really hot. he obviously had no idea how to take care of it which made me really mad. One of my friends, Miranda just got a baby ball python and she seems to know what she's doing but i only see her in Biology and we sit at different tables so i dont really get to talk to her but i'm gonna ask her if she did a buttload of research an all that. it just makes me mad that people would get pets and then kill them because they had no idea what they were doing and they didnt care about them. anyway, if i do get the iguana, i'm prolly only gonna keep it fer a year till it gets big, and i'll sell it if it gets really annoying or keep it f its not too bad. i know iguanas are hard to take care of so i'm gonna do a crapload of research and it'l be a while till i get it, if i do, so..... yeah ok i'm gonna shut up now, an if anyone actually read this whole thing, propz to you.

You already said you were going to do research so the only thing I can really tell you is that if you are not absolutely sure that you want it don't get it. It is nearly impossible to get rid of a large green iguana especially if it has an attitude problem.

yeah i agree with herp_collector. A lot of pet stores don't sell iguana's anymore because they aren't looked after properly and they can be tempremental making people want to abandon them after they pass that cute foot two foot range. It might be convenient, but i would suggest actually doing research, not only on iguana's but other lizards that might fit you better.

Umm...I wouldn't worry about that python being mistreated. From the sounds of it, he made it up.

read these and call me in the morning :P iguannas are extremely hard to take care of and are a big responsibility and can become quite agressif when they go into heat. make shure you know what your getting into before getting one.read everything in all those sites and read the books if you can. after that if you have questions come back and ask them.iguannas are very complicated to care for

camille, thanks foe the stuff, i read it and it was really helpful. well i got the ig cause my friend didnt want it any more, its a lot smaler than i thought, only about 2ft long and its healthier and been taken care of better than i expected. he's in a 50 gallon tank w/ a rock hide, 2 basking branches, water bowl, food bowl and two heat lamps. their flouresent light was broken so im getting him another one soon, ive only had him three days. hes really cute an energetic but completely wild. i had to clean the cage so i had my hand in there and he was terrified and kept whipping his tail at me and running around the cage. after i cleaned out his cae i tried to get him used to my hand a little bit so i moved it towards him really slowly and when i got near his head he didnt seem so scared of hit so he sort of licked it a couple of times and then bit my finger. i was surprised cause he didnt look scared at all and i didnt think theyd bite unless whipping with their tail wasnt working an he wasnt trying to whip me w/ his tail. it didnt hurt very much when he bit me an i drew my hand back slowly so he didnt get scared but he started running around the cage again. im jus wondering, why'd he bite me? he bit like he meant to get me to go away but he wasnt scared. whats te best way to tame him cause he shouldnt be this mistrustful but im not sre how to do it and i dont wanna do something wrong. i really like him besides the being mean thing and hes partly my older sister's so she gets to pay for him and i do all the work:medbigsmi well i wrote a buttload of stuff again, but i havent been here in a while.
