my columbian red tailed boa changing color

My columbian boas original color was a light tan color with a bright red tail.

Now, its scales are turning black and the spots are getting bigger and bigger, and its head has turned dark brown, should i be concerned, or is it a rare morph, cause im pretty experianced with snakes and ive never heard of this happening. Its constantly changing colors.

It looks very cool, but im also very conserned, im looking for an explanation. Is she sick, or does she have a disease, or could it be mites, a cool morph? Now, just because im askind dumn questions dont consider me a noob, i just want other ppls opinions.

I am half asleep to answer this but hopefully I can get most of the question (s) answered.

The color change may be due to shed cycle either going into or out of the shed cycle. Since this was not mentioned it may be or not the answer to color change. Some boas to exhibit slight lighter to darker color changes from day to night (example Hog Isles) do this alot and its a main reason I enjoy keeping them.

If there are no other signs of disease like sounds (bubbles or weezing or choking and etc) or no appetite or eating at all for weeks...then the color change might not be related. I am not 100% certain as I never dealt with a case like that myself.

Mites....hmmmm unless you seen the black spots you mention moving around like fleas or small bugs then that would not be the case. Check around the nostrils and around the eyes if there are mites then this is a breeding ground for them. Also if infested the cage and surrounding area might all be infected and will need serious quarinteen and isolation.

Questions that you need to ask yourself is the bloodline of Colombian and is it true blood or mixed with maybe a Hog Isle or a variation of clean pinkish Colombian Pastels. Of course photos of the 2 extremes in color and maybe the cage will give us all a better idea of other concerns or possible answers for you.

PS. If the cage conditions are not set to proper conditions for the boa, this color cage maybe a factor to see that something might be wrong, or possible disease fermenting.

well, she just got done shedding, and its not mites, so what kind of habitat do i need, i have sticks, and plastic non toxic leaves in there for it to hide in, including several hides. It has a big water bowl and the grounding matches it, you can hardle see it from a distince it matches so well, oh, i use pebbles and wood chips for flooring. But geeeeeeeeese, ive never seen a snake change color so fast!

The decorations are nice, its more a visual thing for you as they don' t really show signs of interest for decorations or not. As long as the food, water, humidity, security, temps and space are met they are just happy by being alert, feeding and gaining size.

The big factors are temps and humity levels are met.
