What type of bedding do you guys use/prefer for ca kings?
How is Pine shavings?
A friend of mine gave me a bunch of 'Northern White Pine" bedding that he use to use for his small animals, but i wanted to make sure its safe before i use it for mine.

Thanks in advance,

Well there is a lot of debate on pine or cedar bedding, cedar is a definate NO! it's toxic to snakes! pine is pretty much split yes / no, although a lot of peeps believe it is toxic as well. I use a combination of that compressed coconut fiber and reptibark, as all my animals are kept in display cages. the ones not in displays use aspen shavings for bedding

Aspen shavings is the way to go as far as I am concerned

I use artifical wood shavings, and it seems to work fine. I try to make it deep enough so that the snake can burrow under them to hide. But if you want you could just use newspaper.

I use aspen for most of my snake enclosures that are off display- it's cheap, looks good(IMO) and doesn't breed bacteria as easily as other types of mulch meaning you won't have to replace it as often. All of my display tanks have a 50/50 mixture of terra-fiber and cypress mulch. I don't use pine shavings and wouldn't recommend it, aspen is better by far, thats just my opinion.
