my new/first retic

when i opend the package i recieved in the mail today, got the snake bag out and opend it, i stopd breathing for about 5 minutes. then it hit me, not only is this my first jampea, this is the first time iv ever seen one in real life. cutest little thing iv ever seen. hes already a few years old and so tiny. the guy i bought him from said hes about 6 feet, im going to guess hes more around 5 but its really hard to tell, could be 6. he said the retics not agresive just wiggly. i havnt tried holding him yet but he seems pretty calm already, been exploring his new cage ever sence i put him in it. in a couple weeks ill be on here posting pictures of my 2nd retic, a dwarf tiger female. iv only been a retic owner for about an hour now and i love it!

Right on about the new snake, but one part of your post is VERY DISTURBING. That would be the part about recv. it in the mail. Live animals can be legally mailed in the States??? Very disturbing indeed! Mark

this is actually the male retic, the female is on her way soon. this guy is definetly bigger than i thought. he looks so teeny tiny curled up but he enjoys moving his furniture. has alot of fun tipping the water bowl and moving the hide box so iv had to hold him twice so far. hes easily 6 feet and VERY wiggly! he peed on me as well.

gonesnakee iv gotten alot of herps in the mail and sent them. sorry if it bothers you but iv seen animals more stressed just from taking them home from a pet store at times.

one question- as far as heat and humidity and those things, do i just follow whats recomended for regular retics?

Well hate to break it to you but according to the USPS it is illegal to mail them. section 525.3 Reptiles of the USPS site states: All snakes, turtles and posionous reptiles are unmailable. The list of live animals that are allowed is section 526 Mailable Live animals & again it states there No snakes, turtles or poisonous reptiles allowed. So every time you have sent or recv. them this way in the past has been done so illegally as per USPS regulations & immorally IMHO as well. They are not properly setup to do so & in order to do it one must lie about what is being shipped. If they do not know it is a live animal they treat it like normal mail & that is not acceptable for live animals. Might want to consider a safe & legal shipping method in the future. Mark

oops your signature says 0.1 and you were saying "he", so i took a guess and guessed wrong lol:D. but good luck with the female when she gets there. i have no experience shipping animals at all so im not going to comment on the mailing thing.

when most people ship snakes they just say its a lizard or something. if they say its some sort of living reptile then whats the problem? you seem to be making a really big deal out of saying a simple little lie, im sure youv lied once or twice in your life.

Ya I guess you are right, its no big deal if live animals get lost in the mail or are treated as regular mail. :rolleyes: Just thought you might like to know where you stand legally. Morally well I personally don't risk the lives of animals unnessicarily & use the proper legal methods available to ship them, but to each their own. :confused: Mark

ok that was just rediculous, i never said it was ok for live animals to get treated like regular mail. i said if they are going to treat a live lizard like a live animal and you tell them its a lizard but its actually a snake they dont know so they treat it like a lizard. i would apreciate you no longer posting on this thread unless your going to be talking about the husbandry and care of reticulated pythons, thank you.
