Dumb Question???

So i got the tracks and silicone...now with the tracks, ones a bit shorter in height wise then the other...which one goes on the bottom?:confused:
Also, can i silicone stuff now, or should i wait till its all done??

Put the smaller track at the bottom, and the larger track at the top. This way when you put the glass in, you slide it up, and then into the smaller track. The way that I have been getting the glass cut is measure your opening, and then make the height of the glass 1/2" smaller so that the glass stays put, but can be removed for cleaning purposes. I used Lucite(TM) for the sliding door on my last enclosure but the lucite was too thin, i think, and it bends, so it would be very easy for a snake to escape, I don't have anything in there yet, but i'm just wondering if I should go buy some thick plexi-glass?

Grant- I put the smaller piece of track on top and the bigger piece on top so when the snakes lean on the glass, there's no risk of the glass popping out at the bottom, they usually put more force on the bottom of the glass/lucite.

If you put the big piece on the bottom you would do it reverse, but then there isn't as much of a ledge at the to for the glass to sit between. I see your point about the snake pushing at the bottom more than the top, but I can visualize how that would actually work.

definatly put the big end on the top... its designed like that and i also dont see how reversing it would work either! lol send up a pic of your setup gore!! im confused now :P

and the bigger track on the bottom, it works great! My problem is (at least i think this is the problem) is my plexi-glass being too thin. It bends and when it bends it makes it easy for any snake to escape between the sliding doors.

Here's a pic of the gap I'm talking about, it kinda shows what I mean. I think I'm gonna try replacing it with a thicker piece of Lucite.

I would suggest replacing the glass with 5 or 6-millimetre thick glass with smoothed edges. Plexi Glass isn't a very good choice when housing herps because it scratches easily.

When using particularly thick glass that may have a large gap in it because of the thickness of the aluminium or plastic track, I would then use a thin strip of Plexi glass glued on the inside edge where the two pains meet. This will work as a guide between the two pieces and allow the doors to open and close smoothly.

Do you see how what i mean now guys (referring to track pic)? It's really no different than having the small piece on the bottom. It's exactly the same, only it's kinda like it's been turned upside down.

ah, i guess it would work if the glass can be slid in from the sides, but the track to place the glass in properly needs to have the thick one on top so when you push the glass up the thick part and drop it down into the bottom track, since the top track is taller the glass wont fall out. If you had small on top there is no way possible to put the glass in and have it not fall out if you cant remove it from the sides. I guess with plexi you can bend it to get it in, but with glass its impossible...

It's easy to put the glass in without putting the tall track on top. You can just barely see in the picture that I cut small slots into the track so that I can just slide the glass right in.

I have succesfully used plexi glass with no ill effects on my boa enclosure....although its a two doors that open on hinges the top half opens and the bottom half opens with a lock in the middle where they meet and two locks on the side and two locks on the top bottom....WOW thats a lot of locks....Although i havn't had any scratches...at least not visible...but then again i dont mess with it often...only when water, etc...has to be changed...
Although...i would definately try to switch over to some 1/4" glass if possible gorelith.
I think ima go for the big track on top cause i know what u mean gorelith, but i think glass is a lot more sturdier then plexi and less easily moved once in place.....
