Cage building help

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and i'm very impressed with the layout and the attitude of the users, it's seems like a really cool site. Anyway I'm in the planning/blueprint stages of building a cage for the adult female bp I'm planning to get and I don't have access to a lot a of tools and I was wondering if there was any possible way to mount peices of glass directly into a wall made out of plywood and maybe frame it with latice slats or something similer. Any help would be very appreciated.

Do you mean that you want to frame the glass with plywood to make sides/windows or do you want to mount the glass to a piece of plywood so that the inside of the enclosure is glass and the exterior is wood?

If you are making windows...the best tool to have is a router. You could then make a lip (around the cut out in the wood) for the glass to sit in. Then it could be sealed with silicone.

Ask lots of questions because there are lots of people around here who are more knowledgeable about this than me.

Thanks for the response I want to place the glass directly into the side plywood wall of the enclosure so I can see in the enclosure from three sides. If this is only possible with a router can u give me a price estimate cuz I am on a very limited budget cuz i'm still in school

about the glass in the side of the enclosure it is easiest to router it out. Then lay the glass in and trim around it. As for the price I'm not sure if you mean for the router or the material. The prices vary from place to place and what type of wood you use. If you don't have a router I would check around to see if you can borrow one from a freind. not much of a help sorry

For any cage building, I would definitely recommend getting a router. They have to be one of the handiest toos you can own. They range in price from probably $75.00 - $600.00 or maybe even more. Usually the router isn't the most expensive tool, but each bit you need costs atleast $15.00 and up. A lot of the bits are over $100.00. Save your money for one, it will make all the difference in your cage building.

I agree with greg if you can afford to get a router get one. I use mine all the time but if you are only going to build one cage I don't think that it is worth it. also for the side glass look on a page called appalachina reptile breeders the have a picture of a screen side and that would be alot cheeper then glass.

Thanks for all the help everyone I hope to make for cages for future herps but for now I'll probably take everyones advise and borrow router from somone to finish this project. If I can get a hold of a digital camera I'll definately post some pics.
