Here are some pics that my g/f and I took of our adult Borneos yesterday. The male seemed a bit cranky b/c it looks like he is going into shed...so we didn't mess with him *LOL*

We didn't get many floor shots of her, but the weird thing is she would start acting all "hissy" when I wasn't in contact with her...what a lover eh? :D

When it finally came time to put her back in her enclosure, she just wasn't having any of it~! *LOL*

Nice snakes. Your enclosures look awesome! How big are they?

Also, I can see some spots where it appears their are exposed seams. I would get some silicon over that right away! Eventually it can become a real nasty problem if the cage is not well sealed.

Also, are those heat lamps exposed, and how are you heating the cages?

The enclosures are 6'x2'x2'. The lamps are not exposed, I have small chicken wire surrounding the bulbs, And I am using 60watt light bulbs to heat the enclosures. They create a hot spot of about 85 and humidity is at 80%. I didn't make the enclosures myself, they were bought with the snakes. And I am planning on sealing all the edges/corners when I get a chance to go to the hardware store (I have a broken leg :) ).

They are beautiful!!! I really like the size of those cages, as well. I just got a brand new Craftsman tablesaw and have a million projects lined up for myself. I have a Burmese female. She is gonna outgrow her aquarium once a year, I think. I have snakes that don't like to go back into their enclosures either. They would crawl around on me all day if I let them.
Anyway, nice snakes--nice cages!!

Yeah...you're going to deffinately need a bigger enclosure for that Burm~! ;) I wish I could own a nice Albino Burm myself but the stupid laws state that we can't own any snakes over 10 feet. Oh well...a guy can dream can't he? Haha

I can't take credit for the enclosures though because I bought them off of Aaron Robson with the snakes. He did a great job on making them and I am very happy.

Well I fed the female tonight~! She took a large F/T rat which I am really excited about. Didn't try the male as he is still in shed. Hopefully next week I can feed a nice juicy one~! :p

Congrats on her eating!

85 is too cold for a hot spot. It should be about 90F hotspot. Also, belly heat is better for the animals. You can pick-up human heatpads that will work great(I myself use them for heating my cages) for like $15 bucks at a store like zellers or walmart or something.

The heating pad thing is true. I use one for 2 of my baby balls. They share it. I got it at a garage sale for $1.00...I also picked up an electric blanket for a$1.00 and it is under six babies enclosures, and it could handle alot more!!

My Burmese just shed and had a really had time with it. She was rubbing herself on everthing she could and it came off in pieces. She was exhaused!! So I put her in an enclosure in about 2" of warm water for 20 minutes and the rest of the pieces fell right off. Since he is so big, maybe you could just use a spray bottle and keep him sprayed all day.
Oh...The colors, after the shed!!! Wow!!

I doubt that the heat pads will go through the melamine. It's just too thick. I do own other snakes though and besides my JCP, they all use UTH so it's not like I don't use them. The snakes are usually in the cool side anyways. And there is no need to spray the male...he has enough humidity in the enclosure as is. ;)

Plus I have heard from alot of people that belly heat isn't important...what is important though, is the ambient/surrounding temp in the enclosure. Which to me, makes alot of sense. Snakes don't have heat pads in the wild...why do they need them in captivity? A snake in the wild usually finds a hot spot and basks in the sun...just like a heat lamp/bulb. Just my $0.02 though. ;)
