Last night I was feeding my Texas Ratsnake and when I got the mice ready he started getting really excited and started "wagging" his tail like a dog. Has anyone ever had this happen with their ratsnakes or any other snake for that matter?

All my ratsnakes "wiggle" there tails...Especially during feeding.

ratsnakes do rattle their tails when they are disturbed. which they are when you feed them. Some calmed down specimens don't rattle their tails anymore.

But it ain't like it is with dogs... it's more anger than pleasure.

It is not a rattle, he moves about an inch or two of his tail in a wavy motion. He rattles his tail on a regular basis so this is something new that I have never seen him do.

My baird's rat in particular wiggles his tail like that, but I have seen the others do it. I think of it much like my cat's tail while she's watching birds... sometimes the tail takes on a life of its own when the animal is concentrating on something else
