Man, all I can say is SICK

NocturnalBC

Why is this sick?

RDJ
07-30-05, 12:27 PM
um no reason, just the fact that 25 copperheads and a rattlesnake were killed.

The area is habitat for those snakes. One comes in your yard kill it if you feel the need but those people were in the snake's yard. Also the point that americans kill snakes indescriminantely, hell they kill them for sport. Many herp lovers have a problem with that you see

sorry to say it but something is wrong with you if you do not think that is sick! especially being on a snake site, wow. some people really amaze me. how you can go into the woods and kill snakes is beyond me. hell, i would NEVER kill a snake if it was in my house(even if it was highly venomous) let alone being out in the woods in their territory.

RepTylE, I agree it is very disheartening and sad that ANY animal is killed for "fun" .
I do take offense in the statement
"Also the point that Americans kill snakes indiscriminantely, hell they kill them for sport"
It is as if you'd lump ALL Americans in this group??
And NO OTHER people do this???
Obviously we are not ALL like that.

200 rounds shot and only 25 killed... they must have very bad aim!

Sad story none the less.

IT's a wonder that someone didn't stop one of those bullets. I tell you the mental imagery isn't pretty no matter what spin you put on it.

I have yet to see a story about a Lithuanian town holding a rattlesnake roundup

yes, even though people around the world might kill a snake as soon as they see it, it is MOST likely to happen here in america. so it is true that MOST (not all) americans will kill a snake for fun or simply for the fact that it is a snake. in india for instance cobras are treated as royalty. here in america 90% of the time you tell someone you have snakes in your house they freak out.

So you lump all americans into this. Thanks a bunch, not all americans are gun toting, prejudiced, rednecks (though some are) that shoot everything they think is "their right" to shoot.

That IS sick.

Humans go into a wild animals territory then they wonder (like idiots) why the bear attacked, or why the "pretty snake" bit them.

what morons.

RepTylE,
Now who said anything about Lithuania??? Rattlesnakes in Lithuania???
There are idiots all over the world. That takes nothing from your point that there are Americans who do stupid, mean, and cruel things, but your insinuation that we are all "white trash rednecks" is really uncalled for on this forum.
I would think prejudice in any form (be it against snakes or Americans or what/whomever) is a bad thing, but that's just my opinion...
Certainly some of my time is spent educating those who will listen about the importance of snakes. I just received a call from a "redneck gun-toting local" who rescued a very nice corn snake from a busy road here. He was worried about it since it had a small wound. A year earlier that would not have happened if someone had not taken the time to educate him.
Just one snake but.....
You and I can make a small difference with actions and not just words here.

An invasion of poisonous snakes

Am I the only one what this drives crazy?

Also the point that americans kill snakes indescriminantely

This happens around the world. Some third world countries do it to survive because they live in places that don't have doors. Others do it out of fear or ignorance of snakes.

With that said I have never heard of there being any kind of snake round up like the rattlesnake round ups here in the U.S. I know in other countries cobras are gathered and then have their fangs ripped out with a pair of pliers so a snake charmer can get a few dollars from a tourist. But they don't hold events with sponsors. Yes these round ups actually get corporate sponsors. Some of which those of us who love snakes may do business with. Snake hook companies for one, I am not saying all of them but there are some that do.
There are also herp societies that attend these things as well but they are there to try to rescue as many animals as possible. Yes those same rednecks who live in those areas but these are the ones that can see the beauty in a snake.

I hate to but in here............butting....
My man happens to be redneck to the bone and I don't agree with many things that these guys do while in the hills hunting. You guys would have a brick. You know. They have contests to see who can kill the most wildlife. It's sick really. They even print out point sheets. Rattlesnake- 10 pts. Blue Jays-50pts. (rare shoot) squirrels, watersnakes, racoons, ,anything you can think of.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there are many, many folks out there who just don't care and would rather run over the Mt. Diablo tarantula than go around it.

I'd rather run *them* over with a truck then swerve around those bastards.

Thats cause theys all drunken rednecks,.....yes it is pretty sad ,some people have a kind of "if you don't understand it,kill it ,mentality I guess.Copperheads are beautiful snakes..too bad..
Sad story none the less.[/QUOTE]

It's not a "not uderstanding" thing. That's the weird part.
We have a rattlesnake and a tarantula for pets. It's a "there JUST animals" thing.
Go figure.

so, their just animals, wipe out all animals, and you will completly interrupt the food chain, while we are at the top, it will effect us the most.

Kimbits42

i think that's where the lack of understanding comes into play. people don't seem to realise that every species is important, and various extinctions will affect us in some way. well, whatever, we'll kill ourselves off sooner or later and then the planet can recover.

Cheers :-D
