I have a 75 gallon tank filled with wood substrate, logs and many decorative plastic plants and vines. My boa has mites crawling on him. I went to the shop where I bought him and the owner said I should replace the substrate take out the water bowl and put this stuff called Pest Away on the screen top for 3 days. The vapors are supposed to kill all the mites on the snake and in the logs. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I want to wipe these things out completely without any further problems. I need a recipe for snake mite elimination

I have used Reptile Relief and it works extremely well. I normally put that on the snake and then wipe down the glass w/rubbing alchohal and I have yet to have any mite problems again.

Hi, I have used Reptile relief before, but I use Nix (childrens lice shampoo), I find it's much more effective. Basically you mix it 1 part nix to 10 parts warm water and put the solution in a spray bottle. Next take the water dish and everything else out of the tank, spray everything including the tank and substrate. Put the snake in a bin and spray it as well, but avoid spraying the snakes head too much. Wipe down the snake after spraying. Let everthing air dry and reset up the tank. Set up the snake in some sort of bin on paper towel with a water dish for 2-3 days. Keep checking for live mites on the paper towel, if there are, spray him some more, if not, don't. You will need to spray the tank and logs etc. once a day. Once you're convinced that you don't see any live mites, put the snake back in the tank...oh yeah, you can get nix at any pharmacy for $10 a bottle and it's completely safe for using with reptiles. This is what I use and has been great for mite treatment. If you have already used the reptile relief do not start using nix as well b/c the mixture can be toxic.
Hope this helps,
