hi just a simple q really, do milksnakes hiss? also, do milksnakes have any odd defense mechanisms (if thats a word!) i.e the coral snake seems to make a double of itslf-

Milksnakes certainly can hiss, and I believe that all snakes can. As for defense mechanisms, a lot of the younger ones like to musk, but I don't think they have any particularly odd defense mechanisms.

Not only will they hiss, but they will also shake their tails to mimic rattlesnakes. They do the old look at me I'm big & tough. Next line of defense is to try & bite when picked up & then crapping & musking in hopes to be put back down LOL Mark

gonesnakee, isn't the shaking of the tail used to draw attention away from the head, atleast thats what i've heard.
i think when the tail shakes against leaves, it makes a rasping sound similar to rattlesnakes which would be intimidating to some potential predators.

umm think rat snakes do that dude tail shakes oh and as i have 3 of them...they do the tail rattlee on anything and your like WTF?!!! should hear the tail shake on an alluminum plate! LMAO
