Hello. My bearded dragon is being housed with a male, i had the intent to breed, but the male didnt seem intrested in breeding with her (they do get along, but more as just friends) however lately she has been getting very "fat" i introduced her to a new kind of food, silk worms, which i know are fattening, but she only gets like 1 a day with her crix/mealies/ and pellots. so i dont think it would cause her to gain soo much however it has been a few months since Otis came (otis is my newer male) and and a few weeks since i started seeing trinity gain weight, i can not feel eggs, but have put a digbox with organic, no perlite, no serlite pottingsoil in her enclosure. here are some pictures of trinity.

First, how old is your female and what is was her weight before and after putting the male in with her? If you plan on breeding you should know weights of at least the female to make sure she is healthy. Also, she needs to be eating enough and getting plenty of calcium in order to make her eggs come out properly.

Secondly, silkworms are not fattening. I'm not sure who told you that but its not true. Silkworms are much healthier than any other kind of worms.

Finally, you don't need to put a lay bin in the enclosure until the female starts to show signs of being gravid. You also need to take the male out once the female has started laying her eggs to keep her from getting stressed out. Leave the male out of the female enclosure for at least a month to ensure she is back to her original weight and not gravid again. Remember to have your incubator set up and regulated with a digital thermometer before the female starts to lay her eggs so that you are not scrambling to get everything together at the last minute. If you have more questions feel free to ask at info@iculizard.com and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
