I made a stupid mistake and thought that I had a good relationship with my insurance agent...so while we were discussing the topic of pets came up and I mentionned that I had snakes...she seemed very interested and willing to learn...but what she was really doing was getting information....god, how could I be so stupid! Anyway, she took my lessons of how Ball Pythons make great pets, are docile, are within the 5 foot range. called Lombard and told them I had "Pythons". Home insurance: Cancelled. I send the broker tons of information on Ball Pythons and the Ottawa by-law that clearly shows that I can legally own them but she didn't forward on the information. I've been scrambling to find home insurance and I've decided to go the honest route only because there is now a record that I have snakes and if my house should burn down because of the heat rope, with a little investigation on the underwirter's part I would be toast. I've finally found someone who will cover me but only under commercial, which is 4x more expensive with less coverage, no living expenses...anyway, part of me is relieved as now I can sleep easy that if my "snake room" is to blame for a future fire I now know that I am covered and if I am successful at breeding my pastel male next year then it will be easy to offset the cost.....
I'm not sure what the moral of the story is but I just thought it would be good "food for thought"
:-)
