Right now my crested is living in a 15g hex tank. I currently just built a huge new tank for my bearded dragon and I now have an empty 55g tank. If I put the tank on it's side so that it sits upright will that be ok for me to move my crested into? Is there a such thing as too much space?

I'm thinking of having a peat moss substrate with a large branch for climbing and a few nice pothos and other green plants for decoration. The end of the tank that will become the bottom isn't a whole lot bigger than the footprint of the hex tank but the tank will be a lot taller. Should we be worried about the crickets hiding too easily in a tank that size?

We would rather keep the tank than sell or store it but we don't have the space for any new additions. Just thought we would ask your advice about using it for 1 crested...

man a tank taht big could house a trio breeding pair. Even for one full grown crested that is still way too big. And by the looks of tequila its not full grown yet. anyway i would sugeest getting a 20 gal to around a 30 gal at teh most for one full grown crestie.

Considering the wild ones have the whole outdoors of New Caledonia to wander in and still manage to find their food, water and home, it shouldn't be a problem to house a single crestie in a 55 gallon enclosure.

i just didn't want the tank to go to waste so i figured io would upgrade my crestie

The bigger the better!

It also gives you the option of adding a new playmate for Tequila, might I suggest a red, and you could call her "Sunrise".

Your concerns about the crickets hiding is valid. But if you move Tequila into a bigger tank it will give him a better chance at getting excersise while he's hunting.

Personally, if I had the space, I would probably use tanks that big for all my breeders, but having the collection I have limits me to the large exo-terra tanks. Anyway, I don't imagine using a tank that big would be an issue, but I would keep a close eye on regulating appropriate temperatures and humidity levels. Also, I wouldn't make the set-up too complex for both cleaning reasons and to give the crested better opportunity to catch crickets. Other than that it sounds like a great idea.
Good luck,
