flying boa?

when i open the lid and put my hand in to take him out he now jumps (flys) on my arm which i thoug was really col then he bit me! he stopped jumping after i feed him.
did he think i was his prey??

Jumps on your arm and will even bite unless you feed him, Hmmmmm does this situation really need a great deal of analysis? Looks pretty self- explanatory to me.

Did you have the prey item near by? If you did, then he smelled the rodent, but saw your arm, so yeah, he thought you were prey ;) It's happened to me, lol.

A good idea might be to feed your animal outside of its cage. I do this with my Columbain Rainbow Boa and have never been bitten. Look at it this way...when you open the lid to its enclosure to drop food into it, your animal starts to associate the lid being opened with food being offered. SO it then thinks the next time the lid opens its getting food! Happy snake but unhappy you when your hand gets mistaken for a mouse. So maybe what i can suggest to you is to feed your snake in another enclosure/container. I use a rubermaid...just a small one ( the snake isnt in there for long ). Mine has now come to expect that when shes in that container shes getting fed ( Her demeanor changes completely ). Shes never bitten me, and never mistakes me for food when i reach into her tank to handle her..even if shes hungry.

Try it out...its also a good solution if you have to keep an eye on your animals feeding habits too....eg. live prey can sometimes harm your herp. ( as everyone knows ) This way you can keep an eye on things and difuse the situation a little easier than if the mouse was in your herps enclosure.
