for a nine year old with proper supervision and a sharing of responsibilities a beardie is fine.. he would just have to be supervised until he gets used to it
with some help cleaning and feeding im sure it would be fine. do alot of research on them and make sure that if you had to help out with something like giving it crickets or whatever that you wouldnt mind and that other family members woulnt mind. do remember that beardies have sharp claws and iv even been pricked by the spines on their sides. sometimes when children get hurt by an animal even with it being totally accident they become very afraid of them.

Igave one to my nephew a few months back now. He is the same age and I notice that he is being very responsible for it. It took him some time to realize that he had to take care of it everyday but now that he knows what to do he is right into it.
Getting info and reading up really helps as long as he understands the info that he is getting. I bought him a book and he called me all the time about any questions that he has. Now the dragon has taken on his full growth and in a decent cage that I helped him build.
